Passdesk is UK software for driving schools and learner drivers. It puts the lesson diary, payments, test-aligned progress tracking, theory practice and route planning in one place. passdesk.co.uk
Passdesk is a UK-built management platform for driving schools, with a self-management version for learners arranging their own practice. One workspace covers the lesson diary, payments and lesson packages, DVSA test-aligned progress tracking, theory practice and practice-route planning, and every learner gets their own portal. Schools pay a flat monthly subscription — no franchise agreement, no rate split, and they keep their own data. Passdesk Ltd is registered in England & Wales (company number 17193377) and stores learner data in the UK.
What Passdesk does
A driving school runs on a diary, a payment record, and some sense of how far along each learner is. Most schools hold those in three or four places that don't talk to each other — a booking app, a card reader, a group chat, and a notebook. Passdesk is the single workspace that holds all of it: lessons and instructor availability, packages and payments, a progress rubric aligned to the DVSA driving test report, theory practice, and practice routes around the local test centre. Learners get a portal showing their lessons, balance and progress.
There's a version for learners without a school too — people practising in a parent's or partner's car who want their hours, routes and theory revision in one place.
What we can talk about
Beyond the product, these are subjects we know well enough to be useful on and can give specifics for:
- Franchise software lock-in. Most software in this market arrives bundled with a franchise contract, which means an instructor leaving the franchise loses their diary, their records and sometimes their learner list.
- What schools really pay. Per-instructor pricing, per-text charges and card-processing mark-ups mean the sticker price and the invoice rarely match. We publish the whole cost on the pricing page, including what card payments cost.
- Learner data and UK GDPR. Driving schools hold medical notes, licence numbers and guardian contacts for under-18 learners, often on a personal phone. What good practice looks like is set out on our security page.
- How learners actually train. Lessons taken before test, manual against automatic, which cars learners pass in — drawn from anonymised data as it builds up.
Research and data
We publish anonymised aggregate data on how UK learners train and pass at passdesk.co.uk/research. Every figure is drawn from a cohort of at least 20 distinct learners, schools and individuals can opt out, and no identifying column is ever read by the aggregation. Each report ships a machine-readable JSON download.
It's free to reuse with attribution under the Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 licence, and each report carries the exact citation line. The dataset is still filling — where a comparison hasn't cleared the cohort floor yet, the page says so rather than publishing a number we can't stand behind. If you want to know whether a particular cut is ready, ask.
